Flowers as gifts

On a daily basis, we spend a lot of time with flowers, using them to spice up the looks of our homes, our offices, and our weddings. Through coronations and many types of rituals or celebrations, individual types of the plants may be very important. Come birthdays, for example, the ones we love are usually greeted with a fresh bouquet. A long time blessing on the planet, flowers are one of the best ways we have to convey or receive a signal of caring.

You may have even heard of a "language" of flowers, one that is different depending on what part of the world you are from. Certainly, the beauty of these can be seen through the works of countless artists, writers, and others in the creative arts. They can help us express our thoughts, feelings, and emotions - they do the needful when words fail to convey.

Flowers definitely possess the ability to influence our emotions or moods. Also, behavioral scientists at Rutgers have found that their presence does in fact cause happy emotions. Unsurprisingly, they have a definite ability to increase the satisfaction one has with life, and the general interactions we have in social settings. Happiness, moods, and intimacy were all things that flowers were seen to have a benefit on according to the study.

When giving flowers to another individual, we pick them based on the meaning that they are supposed to have. Acacia flowers, for instance, are believed to represent concealed/hidden love, or beauty, and people who give these flowers most typically give them for that reason. Furthermore, the Aster is a plant associated with love/daintiness, the pink carnation one that is linked with never forgetting, the yellow carnation with rejection or disappointment, and the tulip linked with seeing sunshine in another's smile.

There are scientific as well as traditional interpretations that flowers do have healing properties too. It took an environmental psychologist at Texas A&M University to conduct a research study which found that plants did have a unique role upon hospital patients when they were placed in their rooms in visible places. In the study, the patients who had the plants also had lower stress, had less of a need for pain medications, and they typically experienced greater amounts of optimism and general physical well-being. Recently, many health care facilities have taken the initiative to utilize these ideas in creation of their healthier, patient friendly environmental atmosphere. What has resulted is an increase in flowers in health care places, as an effort to try to heal the patients in the best possible way.
