Father's Day is just around the corner. Every year millions of fathers look forward to their Father's Day gift baskets on the third Sunday of June. While many of us value our fathers and their respective Father's Day, we're not exactly sure of when and where Father's Day came from.
There are a lot of theories surrounding the origins of Father's Day. Some believe it began in 1909 when Sonora Dodd, of Washington. She introduced the idea of a church service dedicated to all fathers. She wanted the service to take place on June 5th, her father's birthday, but preparations for the even took longer than expected. After all, they didn't have the convenience of sending Father's Day gift baskets at the click of a button! The celebration ended up taking place on June 19th. From then on, the state of Washington celebrated the holiday on the third Sunday of every June.
